Simple Strategy

“I may not be there yet, but I’m closer than I was yesterday.”   Author Unknown

Everyone talks about perseverance – stick-to-it-iveness – continuing steadily on in spite of difficulties or obstacles. But how do you actually apply this vital quality day after day?

Here’s a simple plan that, = if followed on a daily basis, will definitely bring you closer to achieving whatever you want in your writing and in life:*

#1   Figure out the next baby step you have to take to get where you want to go.

#2   Identify whatever obstacle is in the way of your taking that step.

#3   Remove, disregard or ignore the obstacle.

#4   Take the step and move forward.

#5   Go back to Step #1.

Straightforward, isn’t? The beauty of this simple strategy is that you can apply it to just about anything you want to accomplish. It’s a way of staying focused, marching steadily onward, despite whatever roadblocks – inner, outer, or imagined — crop up along the way.

So what’s a goal you have right now, today, in your writing? Is it to finish a story that’s hanging fire? To revise your novel manuscript? To sharpen your dialogue in a scene? To contact the next agent on your submissions list?

Whatever you want to achieve, you can move yourself a little closer today if you put this simple plan into action. Memo to myself: “Just do it, Karin!” Write on!
