Sky breaks open
just before dusk
as you stand in a
great wild silence
know that you’ve
made the right choice:
to weather the storm
and steal this moment
from the gods
to rejoice
breath-by-breath
fully aware
that just being here
so utterly alive
in the teeth of the world
with a belly full of smiles
is to prevail.
