Worst Rejection

“You think rejection is bad—this is much worse…

“It doesn’t feel good to be rejected. YOU GET REJECTED BY A LOVE INTEREST, BY A COLLEGE, YOUR BOOK GETS REJECTED, YOUR SCRIPT GETS REJECTED.

“But there’s something that’s much, much worse than being rejected—and that’s rejecting yourself. Don’t reject yourself! If you don’t ask, the answer is always no….

“DO NOT REJECT YOURSELf. That is much worse than being rejected….

“You wrote the great book. You wrote the great book. But then you start thinking it’s not so great, so you don’t send out out to agents, you don’t send it out to publishers. No. Send it out! Let them reject you! Don’t reject yourself. If you don’t ask the answer is always no….

“But sometimes you have to ask and ask and ask. The exciting thing is you only need one yes. You only need one yes.” Dr. Rob Gilbert

When I heard Dr. Gilbert’s great Success Hotline* message today, I knew I had to share it with you. Here’s a story he told:

Norman Vincent Peale was writing The Power of Positive Thinking. He thought it was so bad, he threw it out in the trash. He threw out his only copy. Luckily, his wife saved it. He was rejecting himself.

Dr. Gilbert goes on to say that Chicken Soup for the Soul and Harry Potter were both rejected over and over again.

If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. Do not reject yourself. That is the worse thing. That is much worse than begin rejected.

If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. But you may have to ask and ask and ask.

“I am not judged by the number of times I fail, but I am judged by the number of times I succeed. And the number I succeed is directly related to the number of times I fail and keep on trying.” This mantra was created by the great sales trainer Tom Hopkins. Let’s take it to heart as we all write on!
