“We expect over 400 libraries to participate in the first year of this annual event, which is pretty amazing.”
Mitchell Davis, BiblioLabs
Indie authors, rev your engines! Enthusiastic readers and library lovers, mark your calendars! On October 8, 2016, libraries across America and Canada will be host a cornucopia of local events to launch the first annual Indie Author Day. The goal: to help local authors get discovered and help avid readers find great new books from local writers. Via Indie Author Day, libraries are encouraged to support local writers and authors are encouraged to make crucial connections with the libraries in their communities — a win-win for everyone: independent authors, libraries, and readers.
Even as independent publishing continues to surge, many indie authors are still struggling to gain a solid foothold in the publishing world and have their work discovered by readers. By working with their local libraries, indie authors can find local fans and build grassroots audiences in their own communities.
The indie author-library connection makes powerful sense: Libraries are better equipped today than ever to help support and guide the careers of local writers, especially in light of the exciting new tools and resources now available in libraries and beyond, including SELF-e, Pressbooks Public, BookLife, and the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA). All across the country, libraries are planning enticing and entertaining events to showcase indie ingenuity:
• Author panels featuring traditional, hybrid and self-published authors
• Presentations from local indie authors about writing, marketing and more
• Book readings and / or signings from local authors
• Presentations on library tools available to the writing community
And in an indies unite! moment, participating libraries will come together at 2 pm Eastern for a digital gathering that will offer inspiration, information and advice for authors from publishing industry specialists.
Among the partners in this exciting venture: IBPA, Publishers Weekly’s BookLife, Library Journal’s SELF-e, Pressbooks Public, Self Publishing Roundtable.com, Soon To Be Famous, Where Writers Win, BookBaby, Indie Reader, NaNoWriMo, and BiblioLabs.
