When decided to start Karin Writes Dangerously, the whole concept was a bit vague for me; but my muse was upon me and I felt driven to do it. My February birthday seemed like the perfect launch date, but that day came and went. Even so, the feeling that I was supposed to do this blog persisted, so I took a first step and asked a designer to create a banner for me. That was a lot of fun: her whimsical artwork made the whole project real for me and juiced my enthusiasm for it. Investing in the banner was a big step: it signaled my belief in this venture – and it was a pledge to myself that I’d go ahead and do it.*

Here’s what happened: As soon as the banner was finished, I became an idea magnet! Ideas started flying at me fast and furiously from everywhere: news articles, books, chance remarks by friends, writing events, walks with my dog. Themes popped into my head as I was about to fall asleep or waking up: Cloud Writing, Liberating Constraints, Juicy Adjectives (all to come!) And on and on. Commitment was the key for me. When we commit wholeheartedly, we signal not just to ourselves, but to the universe, that we’re serious. We bind ourselves to an intention and that triggers our creative energy. Here’s what W.H. Murray says about this powerful and mysterious process:

“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness concerning all acts of initiative and creation. There is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen events, meetings, and material assistance which no one could have dreamed would have come their way.”
