Daring Destiny

“The great achievement was at first and for a time a dream. The oak sleeps in
the acorn; the bird waits in the egg; and in the highest vision of the soul a
waking angel stirs.”
William James

What wonderful words! How happy I was to find them nestled in a lovely booklet created by my friend Marlene Waldock, the founder of Because We Are Women (www.because we are women.com). The occasion was an inspirational breakfast called, “Discover Your Destiny” — and what a gift it was! We all need as much support and motivation as we can gather — and Marlene’s breakfast event, “Discover Your Destiny” was about as inspiring as you can get. Everyone attending got a healthy dose of energy and enthusiasm.

During the two hours we were together, Marlene encouraged us to explore six “Ds” — and I wanted to share them with you:

Daydream: Set yourself adrift and see what kinds of images and thoughts arise in your mind. These unfettered reflections often hold the key to hidden or untapped longings.

Dare: How daring are you? How willing are you to take a risk? What have you done that really pulled you out of your comfort zone? What will it take to pursue your dreams?

Dazzle: When you are passionate about what you are doing, you dazzle other people and bring them into your space. Don’t be afraid to let your light shine and to spread it around!

Discard: Leave the naysayers and your inner critic behind! When you have a negative thought, write it down, then let it go by creating a positive affirmation and repeating it.

Discipline: Pursue your destiny with passion and commitment by doing something every day to bring you closer to your dream. Consistency and perseverence are keys to success.

Document: Make it a point to write down your accomplishments each day — especially those that are bringing you closer to your dream. Give yourself credit — and support.

    Karin:

These six “Ds” are wonderful (and should be printed and posted everywhere by those with a dream), Marlene Waldock is wonderful, and so are you.

You may write YA novels and books, and I write articles and blogs as a full-time freelancer, but we are both dreamers who push on.

    Thanks for the daily inspiration.

    Sincerely,

    Steve
