Adorable Advice

“In a marriage, both partners continue to grow. The best thing you can offer is your unconditional
support and acceptance, wrapped in love for the person who shares your life.”
Love, Cutie

Barbara “Cutie” Cooper is a star on YouTube, a blogger extraordinaire (check out Ask Grandma Anything), and the Amazon-bestselling author of Fall in Love for Life: Inspiration from a 73-Year Marriage. She also happens to be 94 years old, or 95, but who’s counting?

When Cutie teamed up with her two granddaughters, Kim and Chinta, to write Fall in Love, no one could have predicted that it would a become a bestseller, yet that’s exactly what happened. Her book was published by Chronicle Books without much of a splash, but Cutie’s mix of no-nonsense, straight-from-the-heart advice on relationships and marriage quickly caught fire. Her book was excerpted in Redbook and that story leaped from print to cyberspace via Yahoo Shine — and Cutie was off and running!

Here’s a slice of wisdom from Cutie and Fall in Love about bringing up the past: “The most important lesson I can teach you from our happy marriage is that we did not rehash. If something was unpleasant, we got through it, handled the fallout, and did not bring it up again in happy times. So we both knew that once a problem was solved, that was it – we would not have to answer for it again, at least not in its current form. And knowing this, we could give all our attention to fixing the problems that came along, because once they were fixed, we could forget about them, which is a very wonderful feeling.”

And here’s one reader’s Amazon review of Fall in Love: “A book written from the heart, for the heart. Such simple yet profound lessons, that stand the test of time. We can learn so much from Cutie’s words, and the Cooper’s enduring love. You’ll laugh, cry and want to share the book with every girl you know. I LOVED it!!!! (and read it in one sitting… could NOT put it down!)”

What I love about this story myself is that Cutie’s two granddaughters so admired her decades-long love affair with her husband Harry and her heartwarming advice, that they were inspired to share it with the rest of us in a book. In a disposable world, how wonderful to think that Cutie’s words of wisdom will endure. Bravo, Cutie. Write on!
