Happy 2015!

by Sara Teasdale

Life has loveliness to sell,
All beautiful and splendid things,
Blue waves whitened on a cliff,
Soaring fire that sways and sings
And children’s faces looking up
Holding wonder like a cup.

Life has loveliness to sell,
Music like a curve of gold,
Scent of pine trees in the rain,
Eyes that love you, arms that hold,
And for your spirit’s still delight,
Holy thoughts that star the night.

Spend all you have for loveliness,
Buy it and never count the cost;
For one white singing hour of peace
Count many a year of strife well lost.
And for a breath of ecstasy
Give all you have been, or could be.

May the coming year bring you every blessing and joy — and
wild and wonderful success in your work. Write on!

Oh my, Karin. This is more than a wish or even a prayer. It’s a dare!

    Here’s to a daring 2015.

    • Hi Toby,

You are a marvel! You captured the very essence of those last lines in the word “dare” — how knowing of you! Something about the end of this poem has always intrigued me — and now you’ve given me a window into its mystery: It reaches out to us and almost pushes us out into the world tordo the work we’re meant to do — way beyond our comfort zone. And as my friend Coac Tully once said, “Our dreams always lie outside our comfort zone.” How true! So let’s all take Sara’s dare and,

      Write on, Karin
