Beautiful Dreamer

Having just seen an “American Masters” show about the amazingly creative Walt Disney, I was inspired to seek out some of his words of wisdom and wanted to share them with you:

“If you can dream it, you can do it.”

“All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.”

“First, think. Second, believe. Third, dream. And finally, dare.”

“Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, dreams are forever.”

“Our greatest natural resource is the minds of our children.”

“That’s the real trouble with the world. Too many people grow up.”

“There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.”

“Get a good idea and stay with it. Dog it, and work at it until it’s done right. ”

“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.”

“The more you like yourself, the less you are like anyone else, which makes you unique.”

“It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.”

“Why worry? If you have done the best you can, worrying won’t make it any better.”

“I would rather entertain and hope people learned something than educate people and
hope they are entertained.”

“When you believe in a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and unquestionable.”

“All the adversity I’ve had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me…you may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.”

“I have been up against tough competition all my life. I wouldn’t know how to get along without it.”

“All cartoon characters and fables must be exaggeration, caricatures. It is the very nature
of fantasy and fable.”

“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious, and curiosity leads us down new paths….When you’re curious, you find lots of interesting things to do.”

“Always remember this whole thing was started by a mouse.”

Energized and encouraged by Walt’s words, let’s all write on!

  1. Karin, you remind me that I was ghostwriter on “Mr. Technicolor,” the story of Herbert Kalmus, who was a close friend of Disney’s, and he remembered that Disney’s favorite song was “Feed the Birds” (I think that’s from “Mary Poppins”), and that he wept every time he heard it.
