“Real Power”

“There is a sacred calling on your life, and the question is: Will you spend your life flittering and fluttering about, or take the time and really heed that call and create your own path to your highest good?… You cannot let other people define your life for you. You are the author of your own life…

“Real power is when you’re doing exactly what you are supposed to be doing, the best it can be done. Authentic power. There’s a surge, a kind of energy field that says, ‘I’m in my groove, I’m in my groove.’ And nobody has to tell you, “You go girl, because you know you’re already gone.”   Oprah Winfrey, Commencement speech, Salem College

“Doing exactly what you are supposed to be doing, the best it can be done” –- what a simple success formula! And if we all followed it, how much more fulfilled we’d all be. Not just happy, but fulfilled: deeply gratified and satisfied.

We all know what that surge of real power feels like: When we are doing what we’re meant to be doing, especially as creatives, we’re alive, awake, excited, energized. Yes, you and I know the feeling:

You’re in flow – time melts away.

You’re plugged into an energy source bigger than you are.

Your mind is sparking off ideas like a Roman Candle.

Your response to roadblocks: Ratcheting up your ingenuity.

We’ve all been there at some time and place: Doing exactly what we’re meant to be doing with all the creativity at our command. We can return to that place and time, and recapture that feeling again — it’s always available to us. We just need to get out there and find it. And not settle for anything less. Write on!
