Vote Note

Sharpen your pencils and shake the cobwebs from your brain so you can clear the mental mist and find the literary lights that have guided your writing path! The deadline is fast approaching to cast your votes along with other book mavens across America for the country’s best-loved novel.

The intrepid organizers of The Great American Read have recently released a Top 10 list of the leading candidates to date. The project’s “Grand Finale” episode will air October 23 on PBS stations nationwide. That’s when the country’s number one book choice will be revealed. So stay tuned!

To date, more than 3.8 million votes have been cast. If you want to weigh in, you can still vote for your favorite titles from today, October 15 through October 18 using hashtag voting via Facebook and Twitter, SMS texting with the dedicated book hashtag, and toll-free by phone. Luckily, you can choose more than one title! All voting methods for jumping on board can be found here. As we enter the final countdown, the current top 10 books, in alphabetical order, are:

  • Charlotte’s Web
  • Chronicles of Narnia series
  • Gone with the Wind
  • Harry Potter series
  • Jane Eyre
  • Little Women
  • Lord of the Rings series
  • Outlander series
  • Pride and Prejudice
  • To Kill a Mockingbird

“Since the series launched in May, millions of book lovers, super fans and literary advocates from across the country have cast their vote in search of America’s Best Loved Novel,” said Bill Gardner, PBS vice president of programming and development. “Every title on our top 100 list provides a unique window into our vibrant and diverse national culture, and with a week left until the vote is final, it’s still anyone’s game! So keep reading, voting and sharing your favorites with us.”

Mmmm… There are a number of my favs on this list, so I’m just going to vote for them all and let the chips fall where they may. How about you? Which books really float your boat? Why not add your vote and then write on?
