You’re Amazing!

“Within you at this moment is the power to do things you never dreamed possible. You know what you are today but not what you may be tomorrow. Always look at things as they can be. You can do anything you wish to do, have anything you wish to have, be anything you wish to be. When you do all the things you are capable of, you will literally astound yourself.”            Robin Ryan, 60 Seconds & You’re Hired!

An uplifting way to start the day, isn’t it? Let’s muse for a moment on all ways that you, and I, and everyone around us are amazing – and how we can apply this to whatever creative endeavors we’re about to launch into:

We can spin stories and art out of air. We can come up with the wisp of an idea and turn it into something that seems real. We can create art and books, plays and poems  and nothingness. We can give voice to the silent and make sure they are heard.

We can improve our craft. No matter where we are on our creative path, we have the power to go further down that road, to push ourselves and take ourselves to the next level. We are not bound by the past; we are free to create our futures, bright and joyful.

We can learn from our mistakes. When we make one, we can dust ourselves off and keep going. We can see mistakes as feedback and use them as steppingstones to the goals we’re trying to achieve. We can use them as fuel to create the future we want.

We can get lost in flow. We can immerse ourselves in our work so deeply that we lose all track of time. We can enter that creative zone where we are lifted up beyond ourselves and carried someplace we’ve never been before and never thought we’d see.

We can persist. We can hold on until we catch on. Sometimes endurance is the name of the game: We just need to keep moving forward, inch by inch, keeping our eye on the prize and refusing to quit. We can harness the awesome power of persistence at any moment.

We can push ourselves past our comfort zones. When our work calls for it, we can be bolder, we can write dangerously. “Your dreams always lie outside your comfort zone,” my friend and mentor Coach Tully says. We can leave these limitations behind.

Wow. We’re amazing! Now that we’ve been reminded of this, let’s all write on!
