“Staying Power”

Thousands of people have talent. I might as well congratulate you for having eyes in your head. The one and only thing that counts is: Do you have staying power?” Noel Coward

Noel knew a thing or two about staying power—his storied career was full of ups and downs, highs and lows. But despite all the lows he experienced, the valleys he encountered, he kept on creating.

Can we do the same? There’s so much in the world that woos us away from building our endurance muscles. There are endless distractions. There is the media’s focus on “quick fixes” and instant gratification. And then there’s life itself, which often throws obstacles in our way to test our ability to rebound and forge ahead.

In the face of all this, what staying power do we have? Let’s take a look at the kind of fuel staying power supplies:

Staying power is born of commitment and dedication. It signals to the world that we are serious about creating, about sharing what we’ve learned and experienced.

Staying power gives us a strong, core belief in our work—and it’s this which sustains us through highs and lows, and through the rejections that we often face on the road to success.

Staying power—the will and drive to keep going and growing—this is what allows our creativity to ripen and blossom.

Staying power gives us the gift of time. When we make the decision to keep going no matter what, we free ourselves to m;are mistakes and learn from them. There’s no failure, just feedback.

Cultivating your staying power isn’t easy. It takes stamina and energy to keep going—to pick ourselves up again and again. We’re endurance athletes—marathon runners rather than sprinters.

Our staying power increases every time we take a step, even a baby step, toward fulfilling our dreams. Every time we make the choice to keep going even in the face of obstacles, we boost our staying power.

So let’s commit to WIT: Whatever It Takes. Write on!
