Only Now

“Unlike other resources, time cannot be bought or sold, borrowed or stolen, stocked up or saved, manufactured, reproduced, or modified. All we can do with is make use of it. And whether we use it or not, it nevertheless slips away.” Jean Louis Servan-Schroeder, Writer

“Time is infinitely more precious than money and there is nothing common between them. You cannot accumulate time; you cannot borrow time; you can never tell how much time you have left in the Bank of Life. Time is Life…..Israel Davidson, Writer

“It’s only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth—that we have no way of knowing when our time is up—that we begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it were the only one we had. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross, Physician and writer

“In order to be utterly happy, the only thing necessary is to refrain from comparing this moment with other moments of the past, which I often did not fully enjoy because I was comparing them with other moments of the future.” Andre Gide, Writer

All these brief meditations on time remind us just how precious. It’s the very stuff of life isn’t it? And every day, we make choices about how we use the time we have. Sometimes our decisions are wise and sometimes they’re not. Hopefully, like our wise counselors here, we can learn to value time more, to use it with infinite care.

So let’s take a tip from Gide. Let’s not compare the moment at hand with the past or lose it to the future. Instead, “Be here now” as Ram Dass says. Let’s make each present moment count we all write on!
