What lovely, moving words! And how inspiring that the amazingly accomplished Pablo Casals used them to describe his feelings about his calling and what it meant to him. Consider all he shares with us here:

Creativity is a blessing: It is a gift to be able to pursue our chosen work and to give it life each day. And when we pursue it with devotion and abandon, we bless not only ourselves, but our home and others.

Creativity is a “rediscovery of the world: “When we create work that matters to us, we find that curiosity, the enthusiasm of a child, and the ability to re-envision the world and see it anew are often at the heart of what we do.

Creativity is joyful: Joy—this is one of my favorite words. It’s short and sweet and says so much, doesn’t it? Joy, the feeling that “my cup runneth over,” that you can’t contain the deep feelings of pleasure and delight bubbling up inside you. What a gift it is when our work brings us joy and fulfillment!

Creativity is wonder: The “wonder of life” and “the incredible marvel of being a human being.” When we pursue our art, whether it’s music or writing, we have the chance to touch the wonder of life and the incredible powers we have: to think, to feel, to share and connect, to reach out to countless people across time and space.

What a gift Pablo Casals music is to the world! And beyond this, what a gift his devotion and reverence for that gift are to us as creatives. Let’s bring his joy and sense of discovery to our own work as we all write on!
