“There can be no greater gift than that of giving one’s time and energy to help others.” Nelson Mandela
Writing is a solitary pursuit—at least most of the time and for most of us. Some writers, it’s true, have writing partners who work with them on film scripts or to create musicals.
For the most part, though, most of us create alone.
But that doesn’t mean we have to continue on alone.
At some point, to get our work out in the world—to have it read or heard or seen, we’re going to need help—and lots of it!
And right now, I need your help! My award-winning play, Dust of Egypt, about the inspiring Black activist Sojourner Truth’s heroic fight to rescue her little boy Peter after he was sold and illegally take from NY State Down South Egypt, was showcased at the New York Theater Festival in 2022. It won a Best Actress Award for our Sojourner and was nominated for Best Production and Best Director.
This fall, we are holding a series of staged readings at the Sheen Center in NYC on September 18 & 25, and October 2 & 9. I need to get as many producers and artistic directors of theaters to attend as possible with the goal of finding support to bring the play to new stages and for educational outreach. Here’s the link for the readings: https://www.sheencenter.org/events/detail/dust-of-egypt
We’re need help to find producers and artistic directors! If you know any theater industry professionals who might have an interest in attending a reading and supporting the play, please email their contact information to me: Karin.Abarbanel@gmail.com.
I’ll reach out to them, just as I’m reaching out to you now. Thank you and Write on!
I don’t know any people you’re needing but I can make a donation. You can email the info if that will help
