From Your Intelligent Heart by Susan Wilson (Amacom):
“Living in the past is a waste of your precious and limited resources of time and energy. Time and energy applied to the past is Tamie and energy taken away from the present. Apply your resources to make progress toward your goals….
“If you feel the need to worry or live in the past, do so for a specific amount of time each week and then STOP. Redirect your precious time and energy to actions that help you make progress toward your goals.
“A letter to Ann Landers became a favorite of mine because of her response. The writer talked of being older and of wanting to return to medical school and of being eight years older before getting the medical degree. Ann Landers replied, ‘And how old will you be [in eight years] if you don’t go back to school?’
“Many, many people, in reflecting about the past, emphasize how important it is to have a dream and follow it—not for money, not for prestige, not for someone else’s dream, but for yourself. A piece of you withers and dies if you do not.”
Wise words to ponder and apply! I love the idea of giving yourself a set amount of time each week to worry—and then STOPPING! If we can train ourselves to do this, what a great habit it can be! When we let worry run away with us, that’s exactly what happens—it becomes a runaway train and we’re just a helpless passenger. Let’s get off it! Let’s pack our worries in a suitcase, travel to a predetermined spot, and then throw the suitcase out the window and keep going! Write on!
