“I am not young enough to know everything.”    J.M. Barrie

Love this quote! I can still remember hearing it in high school and thinking how clever it was! Sir James Matthew Barrie was a Scottish novelist and playwright whose birthday is today, May 9. Born in 1860, he is best remembered for his creation of Never Land and the immortal Peter Pan and Tinker Bell. In honor of his birthday, a joyful cornucopia of his wit and wisdom:

“Always be a little kinder than necessary.”

“I know not, sir, whether Bacon wrote the works of Shakespeare, but if he did not it seems to me that he missed the opportunity of his life.”

“Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves.”

“The reason birds can fly and we can’t is simply because they have perfect faith, for to have faith is to have wings.”

“Dreams do come true, if we only wish hard enough, You can have anything in life if you will sacrifice everything else for it.”

“When the first baby laughed for the first time, its laugh broke into a thousand pieces, and they all went skipping about, and that was the beginning of fairies.”

“God gave us memory so that we might have roses in December.”

“Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else.”

“For several days after my first book was published, I carried it about in my pocket and took surreptitious peeks at it to make sure the ink had not faded.”

“I’m youth, I’m joy, I’m a little bird that has broken out of the egg.”

“What is genius? It is the power to be a boy again at will.”

“We are all of us failures – at least, the best of us are.”

“Do you believe in fairies? Say quick that you believe. If you believe, clap your hands!”

“All the world is made of faith, and trust, and pixie dust.”

“Second star to the right and straight on ‘till morning.”

What a pixie-dusted wordsmith! Inspired and uplifted, let’s all write on!

I just love Peter Pan and JM Barrie’s original train of thought. You always know that you have to grow up after you are 2. ” Two is the beginning of the end”
