« You have to believe in yourself when no one else believes in you. »
Sugar Ray Leonard
« It’s so important to believe in yourself. Believe that you can do it, under any circumstances. Because if you believe you can, then you really will. »
Wally “Famous” Amos
Every potential miracle begins with your believing in yourself. Right now, something seems impossible to you in your work: It may be finding an agent who’ll love your manuscript or finally seeing your novel in print. It doesn’t matter what your end game is, what matters is where you start: If you start with unbelief, you’ll reap it. If you start with belief, you’ll ripen it.
There is no one standing in the way of your belief but you: The power of your own belief in yourself is stronger than anyone else’s lack of belief in you. If you believe, then anything is possible. “Impossible is nothing,” Muhammad Ali once said. Thing about that for a moment: “Impossible is no thing” — it’s not a real, solid barrier, a thing. It exists only in your mind. Let it go!
“Don’t give up before the miracle.” My friend and mentor Rob Gilbert often says this on his fabulous Success Hotline (973.743.4690) and it’s so true! Harriet Beecher Stowe said it a little differently: “When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hang on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.”
So rise up, start dreaming your impossible dream — and write on!
