Resourceful Sites

Recently, Toby Stein, a friend, poetry lover, and KWD reader, asked me to gather together some of the sites I refer to from time to time. What a great idea!

To fulfill my motivational mission, I often turn to a range of sites for inspiration and information. Here are five that I find full of resources: writing advice, marketing tips, and lore. I’m happy to pass them on and hope you’ll check them out: This site focuses on self-publishing and offers great resources independent publishing, but it also publishes an online blog with helpful advice on writing and marketing ( Though this site focuses on Internet marketing content, its blog often features how-to tips that any writer of either fiction or nonfiction can benefit from. Its archives are a treasure trove ( This site is a fantastic resource for writers. It’s a “community connecting the writing world to readers.” Pubslush is a “pre-publication platform that offers crowdfunding and pre-order options for authors and publishers” (see my post, Pubslush Empowers). You can access its blog for writing advice (

Strange Worlds Online: My pal Hank Quense is a satiric fantasy author and creator of a fabulous alternate Arthurian world captured in his novel duo, Moxie’s Problem and Moxie’s Decision. He also is the author of a series of excellent “Fiction Writing Guides” and “Self-Publishing Guides” that feature great advice on story design, marketing, book design and publication (

Where Writers Win: Created by book lover and marketing pro Shari Stauch, this is one of my favorite online sites. Its primary focus is on helping authors, both traditional and self-published, to market their work — and it offers fantastic social media advice and other tips. It also often features valuable writing resources and events. It has a rich archive, with loads of helpful posts ( I love this site — we all need to hone our marketing skills!

As I find more sites, I’ll pass them on, so we can all build a helpful list. If anyone has other favorite sites, please let me know and I’ll share them. Thanks, Toby, for a great idea — and with these resources to guide us, let’s write on!

Thanks, Karin, for following through so quickly on my asking you about sites for writers that you find fruitful. As soon as I finish this brief thank you comment, I will look up the fifth suggestion of your wonderfully varied list. I would like other readers of your blog to add a name or two to the list–as I will in a few days. Again, thanks, Karin!

    • Hi Toby,

Thanks so much for your note — I hope you find some of the sites I cited helpful. Would love to have you and other readers share their own selections. Thanks again for suggesting this. From time to time, I’ll round up more as I find them.
