Sometimes all it takes is one big break to find the right road to publication. A case in point: A free Web site called “Authors Publish” which cherished KWD reader and intrepid editor Martha Moffett (https://marthaspencil.com/) recently turned up. Visiting the site, I was greeted by the article, “Ten Respected Publishers That Accept Unsolicited Manuscripts” by Emily Harstone. What a fantastic find this site appears to be!

As the  “Authors Publish” site notes, “We’re dedicated to helping authors build their writing careers. We send you reviews of publishers accepting submissions, and articles to help you become a successful, published, author. Everything is free and delivered via email. Finding reputable publishers that welcome unagented manuscripts is challenging, which is why this appears to be a valuable resource for aspiring writers. In scanning the publishers currently featured on the site, I noticed some very positive benefits:

Many of the publishers cited are well-established and highly respected: Chronicle Books and Arthur A. Levine Books, for example.

Many of the publishers cited have distribution arrangements with larger publishers.

Many genres appear to be welcomed: science fiction and fantasy, children’s books, poetry, fiction and nonfiction, among others.

Many of the publishers have released award-winning books and have strong, reliable track records in their fields of interest.

“Authors Publish” not only highlights the genres that specific publishers are open to, but also provides links to them, so you can begin to easily explore whether any of the publishing houses listed might be good fits for projects.

All in all, this looks like a very valuable resource. Bravo, Martha — write on!
