Two Wolves

“Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens.”   John Homer Miller

An old Cherokee legend puts the importance of attitude in perspective:

A wise Cherokee elder is teaching his grandson about life and tells the boy, “A fight is going on inside me.”

“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil; he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride… The other is good; he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness… The same fight is going on inside you and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson pondered all this and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

His grandfather replied, “The one you feed.”

Attitude. It’s the one trait that will have more power over your accomplishments than any other. A positive attitude can move mountains. A negative mindset won’t get you any farther than your next dark thought.

So let’s accentuate the positive! There are so many ways to fuel a positive attitude: We can read inspirational guides, improve our craft, gather exciting new information and ideas, set goals and develop plans of action for achieving them. And above all, we can surround ourselves with people who believe in the power of attitude and in us — people who uplift and encourage us instead of bringing us down.

Attitude is a choice. Let’s live on the sunny side of the street. Let’s choose to be upbeat and positive about our prospects and our life as we all write on!
