“The smallest flower is a thought, a life answering to some feature of the Great Whole, of whom they have a persistent intuition.” Honore de Balzac
For some mystical reason, Honore de Balzac’s name popped into my head, so I’m going with it! Born in 1799, he’s still read and loved for his complex character studies and keen observation of the human condition. Some words of wisdom to speed us on our way today:
“All happiness depends on courage and work. I have had many periods of wretchedness, but with energy and above all with illusions, I pulled through them all.”
“God is the poet; men are but the actors. The great dramas of earth were written in heaven.”
“A great writer is nothing less than a martyr who does not die.”
“There is no such thing as a great talent without great will power.”
“When you doubt your power, you give power to your doubt.”
“There are two histories: the official history, lying, and then secret history, where you find the real causes of events.”
“Poetry is only born after painful journeys into the vast regions of thought.”
“All human power is a compound of time and patience.”
“Life is simply what our feelings do to us.”
“Forgetting is the secret of strong and creative lives.”
“An unfulfilled vocation drains the color from a man’s existence.”
“One hour of love has a whole life in it.”
“Talent is a flame, but genius is a fire.”
“Love is the poetry of the senses.”
And now, inspired and emboldened, let’s all write on!
